A brief history of the TAG Heuer brand

Tag Heuer is a Swiss luxury watch brand founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer in St-Imier, Switzerland. Originally named “Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG”, the company quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach to watchmaking. One of its early milestones was the creation of the oscillating pinion in 1887, a revolutionary invention still used in modern mechanical chronographs.

In the 20th century, TAG Heuer became synonymous with precision timing in sports. The brand was an official timekeeper for the Olympics in the 1920s and developed groundbreaking chronographs, including the Autavia (1933) and the Carrera (1963). In 1969, TAG  collaborated with Breitling and Hamilton to create the Calibre 11, one of the first automatic chronograph movements.

The brand’s name changed to TAG Heuer in 1985 after it was acquired by TAG Group (Techniques d’Avant Garde). Today, it is part of the LVMH group, continuing to produce high-quality watches like the Monaco, Aquaracer, and Formula 1 collections, blending innovation, heritage, and sporty aesthetics.
